WBS – Work Breakdown Structure

The most critical tool in project management is the WBS, yet few utilize it because few understand it fully. This course gives a complex, full understanding of how to create and use a WBS with an complex, yet easy to understand example used throughout.

  • Understand how to create a WBS for PMBOK project as well as Agile.
  • Thorough understanding of cost and duration estimating.

3 hours, 3 PDUs. Prerequisites – none. Cost $300

WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) Course

Capacity Planning

If you plan a project by taking all necessary hours to complete the activities and then divide by 40 hours in a week to determine how long the project will last, your project will be a complete failure because it didn’t account for nonproductive and non-worked time. This topic is completely absent from PMI yet, without it your project will fail!  This course is from the industrial engineering perspective and will ensure MUCH more accurate budgets and schedules. Full, totally understandable examples are provided.

3 hours, 3 PDUs – $300 Prerequisites – WBS.

Making Strategic Planning Successful

All executives must determine direction for their organization whether once a year or more often.  Yet, many view it as a waste of time because even though the organization may know where it is going, it has no clue how to get there or what it will take to accomplish. This class is a must for all business executives.  It guides them through best practices for breaking down a strategic plan into strategic objectives, then into a portfolio of related projects necessary for its accomplishment.  The class further helps in understanding how to determine how much the effort will cost, together with how to effectively monitor progress. Make strategic planning relevant.  Make it count on the bottom line.

3 hours, 3 PDUs and $300

Understanding Risk – No More Surprises!*

We’ve all heard it before, “Anything that can go wrong, will”.  This is an over statement.  Another perspective is “What you don’t know – WILL hurt you!”.  But this is not true either.  A more accurate perspective is: risk that is identified, planned and managed will result in MUCH more successful projects.  Yes, the real answer is that some risks will happen. This course teaches how to identify and quantify, then plan for some of them to happen; both in budget and schedule and do so with much greater accuracy than is taught and tested in the Project Management Institute. The concept of the ETV (Expected Time Value) of risk is introduced. For some reason, PMI established a great method in establishing the EMV (Expected Monetary Value) of Risk, but didn’t realize there is always a risk of delay. If that delay is, let’s say for one month and you have ten people on the project that must be employed through that time, that causes a huge monetary risk, right? We fully explain everything which will vastly improve the way you determine and account for risk.

What Business MUST know about Contracts

Lawyers cannot be responsible for developing the best contracts – you are.  Why?  Because they don’t know what you want or need.  The best use of lawyers is to make certain the contract you write protects you adequately but, in the end, it is your responsibility.  This course teaches everything you must know about contracts, the best type of contract to use in your situation, how to use contracts to reduce risk and much more.   One of our customers, a large state agency, discovered even though they have several attorneys on staff, they had no contracts that were binding.  Take the class, learn how to protect your organizations. Also, most companies taking this course determine they are using the wrong form of contract.

Budgets:

There are so many issues not considered by PMI in determining the perfect budget that, should a project be managed by PMI standards and comes in on budget – it’s paramount to getting hit by lightening and surviving. EXTREMELY rare yet statistically… no, still impossible. You will see after taking this course.

A very complex yet easy to understand example is provided.

4 hours, 4 PDUs, $400. Prerequisites WBS, Capacity Planning, Scheduling and Risk.

Budgeting:
$400.00

Monitoring:

We all know the simplistic red, yellow and green stoplights typically used for projects is nearly meaningless. Utilizing PMI techniques for determining Earned Value provides only slightly more meaning. Since monitoring must cover ALL budget components, this course makes monitoring suddenly meaningful.

This monitoring class will help you completely understand how to create thoroughly accurate perfect monitoring to PRECISELY understand where you are at any point in time. New techniques will be introduced. For example, at any point in time, you should be able to say something to the effect of “We’ve spent 30 percent of the budget and completed 28 percent of the work”. These techniques will be in addition to the PMBOK techniques which, based upon complete budgets and schedules, will be MUCH more accurate!

4 hours, 4 PDUs, $400. Pre-requisite – Budgeting

Monitoring $400
